Is the ignition function of this torch sensitive?

Under normal circumstances, the flame can be ignited every times. If it fails to ignite after several attempts, it may be because the gas flow rate is too fast. Reduce the valve appropriately and try again.

Do you have to hold down the trigger for the gas to flow or does it continually flow until the valve is closed?

There are two modes of use. Normally，you press the trigger to ignite and release it to extinguish. But when you press “Button Lock”, even if you release the trigger, the flame will keep burning.

Can I use for gauge 12 electrical wire soldering using lead free solder?

Yes. It will get more than hot enough to solder 12 gauge. Heck, you could solder 0 gauge with it. Type of solder won’t matter.
