What are the 3 small strips for? Are they just there for good looking?

Those small strips generate yellow light, red light, and blue light. (The headlamp does look better with those little strips)

Do I have to go through every modes to turn off?

To turn off the headlamp, just push the button again 8 seconds after you turn it on.

Why do I have to wait 8 seconds to turn off?

We designed it like this is because we believe that if users turn the headlamp on, they will then be wanting continuous lighting at least for minutes. For off-and-on lighting, it’s better to use a flashlight.
