10 BEST Lakes in Oklahoma with Lakefront Cabin Rentals

From its rolling hills and prairies in the east to the rugged landscapes and high plains in the west, Oklahoma is home to over 200 lakes!

Spread across more than a million surface acres of water, Oklahoma offers an uncrowded lakeside getaway ideal for boating, swimming, fishing, or relaxing in a private cabin by the water. Below I’ve listed some of my favorite lakes in Oklahoma with cabins you can rent to help you plan your idyllic getaway to nature!

My personal favorites are Broken Bow Lake in Beavers Bend State Park for its deep, clear waters and great cabin options like Broken Bow Hideaway. While Lake Murray has cabins with private docks for fishing such as this 3 Bedroom Lake Home with room for the whole family.

1. Broken Bow Lake

Nestled in the southeastern corner of Oklahoma, the clear and deep Broken Bow Lake is set against a stunning backdrop of the lush Ouachita Mountains. Conveniently located near Broken Bow City, Broken Bow Lake offers a peaceful nature escape while being relatively close to grocery stores, quaint cafes, and useful amenities.

Broken Bow Lake is a great choice for an Oklahoma cabin retreat filled with diverse outdoor activities including fishing and kayaking in the clear waters, hiking its many nature trails, horse riding, or even a few rounds of golf at Cedar Creek Golf Course within Beavers Bend State Park.

The cabins at Broken Bow Lake range from rustic hideaways to luxury retreats. And, thanks to its enormous size, most cabins offer direct access to the water, many with private docks for fishing or boating.

2. Lake Murray

Nestled in Murray State Park, Lake Murray is Oklahoma's largest state park with a 5,700-acre lake in South Central Oklahoma. Surrounded by rolling hills and 12,500 acres of forest, this lake is a nature lover's paradise.

Murray Lake is one of my favorite stays in OK. The lake offers plenty of recreational activities, including boating, fishing, swimming, and hiking. And on those days when you need a little more adrenaline than casting a reel, you can head to Lake Murray ATV Park, where you can whip and ride around the park.

One of the best ways to experience Lake Murray is by renting a cabin or cottage on the lake. The Lake Murray floating cabins are some of the most popular stays, which provide a unique experience of living on the water.

3. Lake Eufaula

With over 800 miles of shoreline and 102,000 acres of water, Lake Eufaula is the largest lake in Oklahoma and one of the top bass fishing destinations in the country. East of Oklahoma City, close to the town of Eufaula, the lake offers a nature escape within easy reach of the city.

As one of the best lakes in Oklahoma for fishing, Lake Eufaula is a favorite among anglers. The lake is home to many species of fish including bass, catfish, crappie, and bluegill. There are also several marinas and boat ramps around the lake, making it easy for visitors to access the water.

Because the lake is long and narrow you'll find all kinds of luxury cabins, vacation rentals, and resorts along the shoreline, with a few tucked into some of the more remote areas.

4. Grand Lake O' the Cherokees

Right at the foothills of the Ozark Mountains lies Grand Lake O' the Cherokees. With over 1,300 miles of shoreline, Grand Lake is one of the largest man-made lakes in Oklahoma. Situated in Northeast OK, Grand Lake is close to both Tulsa and Joplin, making it a popular destination for weekend getaways and family vacations.

Grand Lake is an excellent place for water sports and fishing, with an abundance of catfish, crappie, and bass. It is also home to many marinas and boat rental services, making it easy for you to jump on some jet skis or a pontoon boat for an afternoon of fun on the water.

The lakefront is dotted with many cozy cottages, secluded cabins, and upscale vacation homes that offer private docks and breathtaking views of the lake.

5. Tenkiller Ferry Lake

Hidden in the Eastern hills of Oklahoma lies the beautiful Tenkiller Ferry Lake. Created from the damming of the Illinois River, this lake is filled with clear blue water and surrounded by breathtaking scenery. Spanning across two state parks, this lake is awesome for nature enthusiasts.

The waters are a gorgeous emerald perfect for those who like to do underwater dives and explore the depths of nature. You'll find everything from sunken boats to a helicopter, it feels otherworldly down there. The clear waters against the rocky cliffs provide one of the most gorgeous lake views in the state.

With dense forest around the lake, you'll find secluded stays perfect for a peaceful getaway. Alongside the cabins, you can set up tents or even rent an RV spot to stay in during your vacation.

6. Lake of the Arbuckles

Right along the Chickasaw National Recreation Area, Lake of the Arbuckles is a must-visit lake in Oklahoma. South of Oklahoma City, near Sulphur, Lake of the Arbuckles is great if you only have a few days or want to spend a whole week on the water.

For some of the best fishing in the state, you need to visit Lake of the Arbuckles. Not only is it a great place to catch catfish, crappie, and bass, but there are also plenty of places around the lake suitable for swimming or hiking.

Explore cabins by Lake of the Arbuckles with 36 miles of shoreline. Options range from town proximity to secluded spots, catering to all preferences.

7. Lake Texoma

Lake Texoma is Oklahoma's second-largest lake and is located right on the border of Texas and Oklahoma. Hence the mash of the name "Texoma". The lake was created by damming up the Red River. The 89,000-acre lake curves along the border meaning one boat ride can take you to two states in one trip.

The lake offers 580 miles of shoreline with marinas, water sports, and fishing. Camping and hiking are popular for stunning views and wildlife. But beware of alligators in the marsh!

Due to the size, this is one of the best lakes in Oklahoma with cabins for budget travelers. Accommodations vary from resorts to cozy cabins on Lake Texoma.

8. Keystone Lake

Keystone Lake is my favorite hidden gem in Oklahoma. The beautiful reservoir is located in northeastern Oklahoma near Tulsa making it easy to get in and out of the city. It is situated on the Arkansas River and offers stunning views of rolling hills, lush forests, and tranquil water. 

Part of the Keystone State Park, you'll find all kinds of activities to do in and around the lake. Popular activities include swimming, boating, fishing, camping, and hiking trails through the Keystone Ancient Forest and Bear's Glen Cove.

The lake is full of nooks and crannies where cabins, lodges, and rentals are all tucked away and often offer fantastic lake views.

9. Lake Hefner

If you're looking for something to do while visiting OKC, check out Lake Hefner! The lake is located right in the heart of Oklahoma City and makes for an excellent day trip. It's everyone's favorite spot for Labor Day.

The waters of the lake are perfect for renting a paddle board, boating, fishing, and even swimming in designated areas. But one of my favorite things about this lake is the beautiful biking and walking trails that line the shore. You can take in stunning views of the lake while getting some exercise or stop for a picnic. You'll also find some yummy restaurants to have dinner at and take in the sunset. It's gorgeous!

Finding accommodation on the water can be tough, but luckily the lake is super accessible from downtown OKC and other popular areas. You'll find cozy cabins, lakeside rentals, and even fancy hotels with lake views.

10. Great Salt Plains Lake

For a little bit of something different, the Great Salt Plains Lake is a must-visit destination in Oklahoma. Located in Jet, this lake offers unique activities such as digging for selenite crystals and birdwatching at the Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge.

When you visit the park, you can have a blast with activities like bird watching, hiking, a basketball court, horseback riding on marked trails, and fishing at the lake. You'll find nature trails, fishing docks, and chances to see migratory birds while paddling around the lake in a canoe or kayak.

Because the area is so rugged the accommodation directly on the water are camping and RV sites and require a two-night minimum stay.
